With that in mind the government has just launched a new competition under the banner “Business is Great Britain” that is designed to find the most innovative SMB in each region of the British Isles.

Being backed by BT, it is focusing on three different areas [best exporter, most innovative small business, and best growth story] to try to work out where the best businesses are and with such firm backing it’s a golden opportunity for your company to get involved with.

Right off the bat, to enter the competition it’s wise to identify how many of the following categories apply to the business carried out by your SMB:

- Best exporter

- Most innovative small business

- Best growth story

Then fill in all your details in the online form at this link that includes details on the nine different regions of the UK that have competitions running within them. After this comes the “showing off” part where you explain in 500-to-750 words what makes your business “GREAT” accompanied by a photograph.

Creating a pitch for your company that captures the imagination of the judges is key and just think back to all the testimonials that other companies have given you in the past to bring out the most positive words possible.

When you’ve submitted those words of wisdom it’s a matter of waiting until 15 December for the close of the competition and the winners will be put through to the national finals, thus presenting a great opportunity to showcase your business nationally.

First prize comes in the form of an exclusive prize package worth £30,000 that includes a nationwide advertising campaign as well as an Apple iPad, free BT Wi-Fi for a year, and a support package from UK Trade & Investment.
